Isn't It Great To Be Here?
In 2018, I made a book with Volume Press, an independent publisher in Shanghai.
Nelson and I were internet pen-pals - never met in person, but knew of each other through blogging. Most importantly we were then both art directors in the ad industry.
When he approached me for a project, I said I had nothing to offer but my photography work.
The original idea was to showcase my first 10 weddings. I started writing some backstory. Nelson wanted more. And then he said perhaps we should translate it into Chinese for the local readers, and I said, hang on, I can do it.
So the end product is a hardbound 316-page bilingual semi-autobiographical book.
Isn’t It Great to be Here? is the story of how I walked away from an advertising career and became a photographer. Told through short personal stories, each chapter offers a ‘tagline’ that I learnt from capturing happiness through my lenses. Most importantly, it’s about how to become a happier person.
